Welder accused of stealing chain

A welder, accused of stealing a gold chain during a hold-up, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman after she was told that he allegedly threatened to cripple the victim.

Quincy Letlow, 28, of East Ruimveldt, was charged yesterday with robbing Paul De Nobrega of a $230,000 gold chain. It is alleged that on October 28, Letlow, together with another, robbed De Nobrega at the corner of Water and Croal streets.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Three.

Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth objected to bail based on the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. Ricknauth also stated that Letlow threatened to cripple De Nobrega.

Bail was subsequently refused and Letlow is to return to court on November 7, when statements are to be filed.
