‘I try a thing and I thief the things’

-housebreaker jailed after confessing to crime

A man was yesterday sentenced to spend the next 36 months in jail after he confessed to burgling a woman’s home.

Carlin Nurse, 43, pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter and larceny when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan, who handed down the sentence in a city court.

Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick said that on Tuesday, November 4, at Tucville, Nurse broke and entered the dwelling of Latoya Richard and stole a quantity of items valued at $98,500.

Bostwick stated that on the day of question, at about 9:45am, Richard left home to take her daughter to a Day Care service and upon returning she spotted Nurse entering her premises. A report was made to the police and Nurse was later found with the stolen items and identified by Richard.

Under caution, Nurse told police, “I try a thing and I thief the things.”

The items were recovered and the magistrate ordered them to be returned to Richard.

Meanwhile, another man, Royden Crighton, was remanded to prison after being accused of a $2M break and enter and larceny.

It was alleged that between November 2 and November 3, 2014, at Section ‘K,’ Campbellville, Crighton, 42, of 119 ‘D’ Field, Sophia, broke and entered the dwelling of Dwayne Wright and stole two television sets, a stereo set with speakers and other items, amounting to a total value of $2,000,410.

Crighton pleaded not guilty.

Bostwick objected to bail. He noted that Crighton gave a different address to the police from the one he gave the court. He also said there is compelling evidence of Crighton being caught inside the house.

Crighton, however, told the court that on the Monday morning (November 3), he saw a couple pieces of iron in the yard and when Wright was about to open the padlock on his gate, he saw him inside his yard. He said he told Wright, “I does do iron wuk and I just pass by and see couple piece of iron in the yard so I decide to take it.”

Bail was refused and the case was adjourned to November 24.
