Taxi driver shot, bandits escape with passenger’s cash

A taxi driver was shot by bandits yesterday in Enmore, East Coast Demerara while waiting on a passenger who had just withdrawn a large sum of cash from a city bank and left it in the taxi.

Imran Khan is a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

According to a police release, two gunmen rode up to Khan’s vehicle on a motorcycle and shot him, stealing a bag with $1.5 million.

The men escaped and police are conducting their investigations.

The police said Khan was hired by a man who had travelled to a city bank to transact business. The man had stopped at a business place in Enmore, leaving the bag of cash in the car. While Khan was waiting in the vehicle he was shot.
