A 20 year-old Da Silva Street, Kitty man is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after one of his friends allegedly fired a gun at him.
Devon Howell of 87 Da Silva Street, Kitty, was shot to his neck on Friday afternoon while he and his friends were “playing with a gun” in a house on D’Andrade Street, a corner away from where Howell resides.
His aunt Nathalie Howell told Stabroek News that she had sent the young man out to buy something and after some time passed, and she did not see him, she got worried. “I went and search for him and I see one of his friends’ small brother and he tell me that his brother just shot a boy,” she said.
She stated that as she continued along D’Andrade Street, a car pulled up in front of her and someone shouted at her to get in. “When I looked in the car I saw my nephew at the back lying down and two boys were holding up his neck and blood was on his shirt,” she said.
She added: “I asked them what happen and they said Devon shoot himself and so I jump in the car and we carry him to the hospital.”
She said she received information that Howell and four other young men were in a house on D’Andrade Street and they were taking turns in “feeling the gun.
“I does tell the truth, you hear right. They were playing with the gun. I don’t know is who gun but they were playing with it and when this boy had the gun he crank the gun and it hit Devon. Is company, make this happen. I raised Devon like a son and I feel now like all of it waste,” she said, crying.
“You know many of them in that emergency room kick the bucket and I praying for my nephew….praying that he wouldn’t be one of them. When I asked the doctor how bad he is she said it’s critical. When I ask how critical she said there is a 90 per cent chance he won’t make it.”
She said his heart had stopped beating last night but the doctors had revived him.
Howell also stated that the young man who did the shooting and his friends were missing since they dropped off Devon at the hospital.
The police in a press statement, indicated that they were investigating the matter.
