A motorcyclist met his demise in an accident along the Number 10 Village Public Road, in Berbice, on Sunday.
The dead man has been identified as Dilchand Angad, 28, also known as Ryan, of Plantation Hope, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, and was headed home when the accident occurred.
Angad was riding a recently purchased Yamaha CBR motorcycle and may have been drinking before.
According to a Guyana Police Force statement on the accident, Angad was riding along the roadway when he overtook a minibus and collided with a motor lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction. He sustained injuries and was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
But accounts given to Angad’s family differed.
His widow Linda Haarilall told Stabroek News that residents reported to her family that her husband was riding around the turn on the public road, lost control, rode off the road and hit his head.
The grieving woman noted that the last time she spoke to her husband was about 15 minutes before they received news of the accident. He had told her that he was on his way home.
The couple had been married for almost four months.
Angad’s parents were also trying to come to grips with the reality that their only son had died. His mother was inconsolable. His father, Mulchand Angad, holding tears back, said from the information received from his son’s friends, he had been drinking with them. They said he had only three beers before leaving to pick up another friend, shortly before the accident occurred.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow, while the funeral service is planned for Sunday.
