Man charged with Mahaicony teen’s murder

Mark Mohammed, who allegedly chopped 19-year-old Neeraj Michael and threw him overboard has been charged with murder and remanded to prison.

A post-mortem examination performed on the body of Michael revealed that he died as a result of drowning along with other contributing factors which include asphyxiation and multiple lacerations to his upper body.

This is according to his uncle, Ganesh Shiwamber who also told Stabroek news that he is still wondering what would have caused his nephew to die such a horrible death.

According to reports, Michael who resided at Champagne Village, Mahaicony was last seen on November 24, after he had informed his grandmother that he was accompanying his employer to a wedding function at Hyde Park, Mahaicony.

It was reported that while there he had an altercation with some persons. He later left the function via boat to return home and was chopped and dumped overboard.

His body was pulled from the Mahaicony River on November 26.

A police press release issued that day had revealed that there was a suspect in custody.

‘C’ Division Comman-der Christopher Griffith confirmed yesterday that Mohammed was charged and placed before the court on Friday last and was remanded to prison.

He is to appear in court again on January 5, 2015.

Michael was laid to rest on Sunday.
