Sheet Anchor man found dead in house with suspected stab wounds

A Canje, Berbice businessman was yesterday found dead in his home by his son, after not having been heard from since Monday and the police are investigating.

Dead is Terrence Mc Lean, called ‘Ronald’ and ‘Scotchie’, whose body, though in the early stages of decomposition, appeared to have stab wounds.

According to reports, the 62-year-old remigrant and former goldsmith lived alone in the upper flat of his two-storey house, while he rented the lower flat to a family of three. Since his return to Guyana a few years ago, he started a boating business with the help of one of his sons.

The man’s son, Frederick Mc Lean also called ‘Bum Bee’ is the only one of his sons who resides in Guyana. He was the one who discovered Mc Lean dead and rotting in his home.

The younger Mc Lean last spoke to his father on Monday, and after calls to his cellular phone on Tuesday went unanswered, he grew concerned and decided to pay the senior a visit yesterday. Mc Lean arrived at the house sometime after 06:00hrs and noticed that the lights were still on.

He called out to his father but got no reply. Suspecting something was amiss, he then ascended the stairs located at the side of the house and looked through a window and noticed his father lying on the ground in the living room area.

Stabroek News understands that the son ripped away mesh from the window and jumped into the house and then realized his father was dead and had been so for some time as was evident by the swollen state of his body.

Mc Lean’s body also reportedly appeared to have multiple stab wounds in the vicinity of his upper torso. Some of the man’s close associates, who were gathered outside of his home when Stabroek News visited, disclosed that Mc Lean was supposed to travel to Georgetown to clear a crate, and so his absence went unnoticed. He was last seen and heard from on Monday, December 1.

With the exception of the son who found his body, the man’s entire family resides abroad.

There were no visible signs of forced entry into the house and neighbours neither heard strange sounds nor saw anything out of the ordinary. Also nothing appeared to be stolen or missing from the house, as the cell phone of the deceased was found near his body and an undisclosed sum of money was found on the couch in the hall.

Consequently, the police unclear of how he died have not ruled out murder. It is hoped the post-mortem examination which is expected to be carried out later this week will shed some light.
