Kitty man fined for assaulting son during bid to protect mom

A Kitty man was yesterday fined $10,000 for assaulting his son, who tried to stop him from attacking his mother.

City magistrate Ann McLennan fined Claude Tyrell, who pleaded guilty to a charge that on November 28, at Lot 139 Thomas Street, Kitty, he unlawfully assaulted Errol Tyrell.

Prosecutor Tracymay Gittens told the court that Errol was asleep when he heard a loud noise in the house that awoke him. Upon going to the kitchen, he saw his father about to assault his mother and intervened, resulting in him being assaulted.

Claude, who was arrested after a report was made, told the court it was “a combination of events” that led to the altercation. “…But specifically, on the day in question that we talking about right now, she start rising her voice to me, we had an argument and Errol told me ‘Big man, you can’t talk to my mother like that.’ Is a whole lot of factors but the bottom line is that I ain’t working and not contributing to the house like I use to before. I am very sorry,” he said.

Claude was fined $10,000 or three months imprisonment. He was also placed on a bond to keep the peace.
