According to a release from the Orphanage, the bus was purchased to transport the children who reside at their orphanages both from the Kitty and the Oleander Gardens, East Coast Demerara locations. The bus will display “Shaheed Orphanages” on each side.

The recently purchased bus was made possible through the acts of several organisations and for which the Chairman of the Board, Badrudin Hassan has expressed gratitude. These are Republic Bank Limited and the Government of Guyana namely Ministers Jennifer Webster, Anil Nandlall and Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Khurshid Sattaur.

Shaheed Boys and Girls Orphanage has been in existence since the 1950’s the release said, and it continues to provide care and support for vulnerable children throughout the country. It also has invested in more than $2 million in preparation of a playground at their Oleander Gardens locations and upon completion, the facility is expected to have floodlights. Recently the Orphanage has also invested in private education for their residents.

The commissioning is expected to coincide with a holiday treat for children to be hosted by the Guyana Gallery (GG), a socio-cultural, educational and philanthropic organisation.
