Mahaica man gets $150,000 bail on two fraud charges

A Belmont, Mahaica man was yesterday granted $150,000 bail after he denied two charges of fraudulent conversion read to him yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on November 12 at Robb Street, Georgetown, Jagdesh Mangal, 27, of Lot 51 Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, being solely entrusted by Charlotte Wilson with $400,000 to buy one M91-A1 transfer case for one motor lorry, converted the same to his own use and benefit.

It is also alleged on November 22 at Ituni, Upper Demerara River, being solely entrusted by Wilson with $280,000 to purchase one M931-A1 transfer case for one motor lorry, Mangal also converted the same to his own use and benefit.

Mangal pleaded not guilty to both charges read to him by Magistrate Annette Singh in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 11.

However, no facts on the matters were presented by prosecutor Deniro Jones during the hearing.

After the submissions, Mangal was granted $75,000 bail on each charge.
