Belizean soldier shot, robbed in Kitty

A member of the Belize Defence Force is nursing an injury in the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot and robbed on Monday night while walking along Stanley Place, Kitty.

Emil Mendez, who is also an orthopaedic technician was attacked by an unknown assailant, police said. According to a police press release, Mendez put up a fight when he was attacked and was subsequently shot by the bandit in his abdomen.

When Stabroek News visited Mendez yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital, he was sleeping and heavily bandaged.

Police Public Relations Officer Ivelaw Whittaker said investigations are ongoing.
