One brother granted bail over La Penitence attempted murder charge

One of two brothers remanded to prison on Christmas Eve on a charge of attempted murder, was yesterday granted $600,000 bail.

Michael and Mahase Vishwanauth were jointly charged with maliciously wounding Jamal Curwen Jones with intent to murder him on December 21, at La Penitence

When they appeared in court again yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry Michael Vishwanauth was granted bail, since Prosecutor Michael Grant had no objections to bail for him, but maintained his objection for Mahase Vishwanauth.

Grant said that a rank visited the hospital during the process of investigation and informed the prosecution that the virtual complainant is still hospitalized and in a stable condition.

The court was told that on the day in question, at about 17:30 hrs the virtual complainant was walking on Middle Road, La Penitence when he met the two defendants.

A misunderstanding occurred and the two men armed themselves with a broken bottle and a knife and beat him to an unconscious state.

Mahase Vishwanauth is to make another court appearance today.
