Woman found floating in ‘Blacka’, murder suspected

The lifeless body of a woman was pulled out of the ‘Blacka’, Lamaha Canal yesterday morning by her brothers and it is believed that she was murdered.

Natasha Jacobs, 35, of 232 Lamaha Park left a family reunion on Saturday night to spend the night at her boyfriend but never returned home. A suspect is in custody after a dramatic confrontation at his residence in which he was beaten by irate family members.

The mother of four was discovered floating in the huge trench with a handbag on her shoulder by ‘B’ Field, Sophia residents yesterday. There were marks of violence about her face and hands, and residents were heard shouting “is the man beat her and kill her. She didn’t drown”.

Nadine Jacobs, the woman’s sister, said Jacobs would tell her that her boyfriend of two years would beat her and take away her money.

Nadine Jacobs added that the man had threatened to end her sister’s life on several occasions but when her brothers asked her to tell them where he lived she would not say.

She said that on Saturday night her sister did not return home neither did she do so on Sunday night. That is when her family, she said, started to get worried because she is never away from home for such a long time.

Yesterday, she said her mother went on a hunt for her older sister around the `Blacka’ area when a resident shouted “you looking for your daughter? The …man beat her and slit her throat. Look she deh in the canal.”

She said her mother started to holler and people called her brothers and told them to come and collect her because something had happened. She said when she saw her sister, there were marks of violence on her mouth and around her eyes.

Seon Jacobs, Natasha Jacobs’ brother, recalled one time when Jacobs came home with a chop mark on her left arm. He said she told him that her boyfriend would beat her and threaten to kill her if she didn’t listen to him.

Jacobs said when he finally found out where the man lived yesterday, he along with his other brothers went to the house. He said when they arrived, the man was wiping his house and appeared very “normal”.

He stated that he grabbed the man in his rage and demanded to know if he had killed his sister but the man claimed that he did not know her. By that time, residents had gathered around them and started to shout that they would see Jacobs entering the yard on many occasions.

Jacobs added that the residents and his brothers started to beat the man while he broke down his shack. He stated that the police arrived and stopped them from further beating the man.

The man is presently in police custody assisting with the investigations.
