Interpol to assist Suriname in border patrol

(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO — International police organization Interpol will help Suriname to guard its borders. The organization will donate special equipment to screen the validity of foreign passports. Interpol secretary general, Ronald Noble, who made this announcement at a press conference yesterday, explained this system has been very successful globally. The Interpol official was on a one-day visit in Suriname.
Chief of Police, Humphrey Tjin Liep Shie, emphasized the good cooperation between Suriname and the international organization. In addition to expertise in border patrol, Tjin Liep Shie hopes he can get Interpol assistance in registering and identifying fire arms. Both officials explained that Interpol only reacts to requests by a country to help track down suspects. The eventual arrest is up the police authorities of the requesting country. Suriname has been a member of Interpol for 65 years. Noble has been secretary general for the past 14 years.
