Four T&T cops held after Chinese couple robbed

(Trinidad Express) FOUR POLICE officers alle­gedly involved in robbing a Chinese couple of half a million dollars at their Bon Air, Arouca, home about two weeks ago were taken into police custody yesterday morning.

Senior police sources said three of the offi­cers were picked up at their homes between 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock yesterday morning while the other officer was held at the Malabar Police Station. The officers were detained by offi­cers of the Professional Standards Bureau. The robbery victims, Danny and Yvonne Owu, who own a casino and res­­- taurant, allege two Wed- nesdays ago, offi­cers of the Northern Division entered their home and made off with two duffel bags filled with cash amounting to half a million dollars. Officers at the Tunapuna and Arouca Police Stations refused to take their report. Police later executed a search warrant at the Arouca Police Station, looking for the stolen money, but turned up empty-handed. One day later, the acting sergeant was transferred to the St Joseph Police Station, the acting corporal to Tunapuna, and the two constables to the Malabar and Pinto Road Police Stations. One of the officers has since turned State wit- ness in the case against his colleagues while another witness in the case has been placed in protective custody by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau.
