‘Wrong’ brother gunned down in T&T

(Trinidad Express) ANIL Jaikaran was shot dead in Marabella on Saturday night by people intent on killing his brother Ramnaresh Jaikaran, who had refused to end a love affair with a woman despite being beaten and threatened.
Ramnaresh Jaikaran was also shot but expected to survive. His wife, Lystra Jaikaran, 37, was in the back seat, but escaped injury. The three were attacked as they drove along Bay Shore Road, Marabella at around 9.55 p.m.
Police said the brothers were in a car driven by Anil Jaikaran, 38, when two men ran to the vehicle and began firing into the car, a Toyota Corolla. Anil Jaikaran was shot in the shoulder, chest and back but was still able to drive away, coming to a stop at Battoo Boulevard. This is where family members found him, slumped over. His brother had been shot in the right leg.
The Express was told that the shooting was linked to an on-going feud between Ramnaresh Jaikaran and a man who wanted him to end a relationship. When Jaikaran refused, he was badly beaten three years ago.
Sister Eva Jaikaran said: “Ramnaresh was beaten up by the man who told him not to come back there. After that they always had altercations. I always tell him to leave the relationship because it will get him in trouble. And now the wrong man get kill.”
The father of a seven-year-old girl, Anil Jaikaran, of Maple Drive, Pleasantville, worked as a delivery driver for two years and Ramnaresh as a fruit and vegetable vendor for 20 years.
Eva Jaikaran described her dead brother as a hard-working and caring person who never “say no to helping anybody.” Jaikaran’s killing has taken the homicide toll to 328 for the year. Police constable Hercules of the Marabella Police Station is investigating.
