Fugitive charged over 2009 Mazaruni murder

Rocky Cumberbatch called Rocky Alexander was arraigned and remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a manslaughter charge.

It is alleged that he killed Marvin Charles at Kamaka Landing on the Mazaruni River on January 22, 2009. It was also alleged that he made good his escape from a police officer at Kamaka Landing on January 24, 2009. According to Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman, when Cumberbatch was arrested at La Penitence on December 31, 2013, he tried to make good his escape once more. Blackman further stated that Cumberbatch was positively identified at the time of his arrest.

Magistrate Faith McGusty subsequently remanded Cumberbatch and adjourned the case for further hearing on January 6, 2014.
