Survivors from Port Mourant attack still in hospital

Two of three survivors from the Port Mourant backdam rice field shooting on January 30th are still hospitalised.

David ‘Davo’ Harpaul, 38, of Rose Hall Town and Zameel Abrahim, 25, of Black Bush Polder are still regarded as critical.  Stabroek News understands that Harpaul is currently in a city private hospital whilst Abrahim is still at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

When Stabroek News spoke to the mother of Abrahim she said her son is on a life support machine battling for his life. She also explained that Abrahim’s lung is damaged and parts of his body from below the stomach are numb. Pellets from the gunshots are still in his body. The mother also said they are trying to fly her son overseas for additional medical attention. However, they are unable to talk to the doctor to find out if her son can travel.

Meanwhile, Tricia, wife of Harpaul, said part of her husband’s intestine was removed due to the injuries.

The January 30th incident claimed the lives of Seafield Layne, 48, of Number One Road Corentyne and Krishnaraj Jagdeo, 47, of Free Yard, Port Mourant. An autopsy performed on the two bodies on Monday stated that the deaths were due to shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries.

The examination was performed by pathologist Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan at the Port Mourant Hospital.

Stabroek News understands that, Jagdeo was laid to rest yesterday whilst Layne is still to be laid to rest.

Clement Griffith was also injured during the shootout. He is in a stable condition.
