William Light, who was accused of murdering two persons during a rampage with a cutlass in Charlestown, pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter last Friday before Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court.
Light, a construction worker of Stevedore Housing Scheme, was charged with murdering Cedric Blackman and Ann Cham-A-Koon on 26th October, 2010.
An application was made by the defence for a probation report to be presented to the court, and Light is expected to be sentenced on March 20th.
He is being represented by lawyers Bettina Glasford, Maxwell McKay and Brendon Glasford, while Dhanika Singh is representing the state.
Following the rampage, Light was also accused of unlawfully and wounding Radesh Persaud and Shawn DeSouza on the said day with intent to commit murder.
Blackman’s granddaughter had told Stabroek News, that Light had been “around” her grandfather for a while and did “odd jobs” for residents around the Charlestown area.
