No one has been charged as yet following the sexual molestation of a five-year-old girl.
This is according to an official attached to the Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA), who told Stabroek News that the police are still conducting investigations into the matter and could not reveal information regarding arrests made and whether anyone is to be charged soon. Police officials declined to supply this newspaper with information on the progress of the investigation.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did, however reveal that the girl has been reintegrated into school.
The child could not identify her alleged attacker during an identification parade held last month, according to CC&PA Director Ann Greene, although this newspaper was told that she had earlier identified two of the perpetrators.
After the young girl complained of having been molested, she was taken to a hospital where a doctor confirmed that there had been vaginal penetration. Three persons, including two women and a taxi driver, were the initial focus of the investigation.
The CC&PA official said the young girl has been in the custody of her school teacher since the time the molestation was first revealed about a month ago. The woman added that the agency is in continuous contact with the school teacher and though the child’s aunt, who is also her guardian, has returned, the agency cannot make a decision to hand the child over to her aunt until the completion of the investigation.
The child’s aunt was in the interior at the time of the abuse occurred.
This newspaper was told that the child’s aunt wants custody of her niece. She had paid one of the persons who was arrested to look after the girl while she was in the interior.
