Chinese national fined for littering Wellington St

A Chinese national is the latest litter bug to appear in a city court this week. Yesterday, he was ordered to pay a fine, after he pleaded guilty to dumping garbage on Wellington Street.

Jindi Zhon, pleaded guilty to discarding a large green bag of plastic bags, shoe boxes and cardboard boxes on March 13 at Wellington Street, Georgetown. He spoke through an  interpreter.

Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond ordered Zhon to pay a $10,000 fine, with an alternative of twenty days in jail.

On March 4, the Magistrate had imposed a fine of $15,000 on Jermaine Joel, who had pleaded guilty to dumping garbage on Church Street. Meanwhile Sookram Ramnarine, Yasol Kalli and Roy Singh were all given thirty months community service on March 24, following guilty pleas to dumping garbage on Merriman Mall in separate instances.
