Man stabbed to death at Lethem

A 23-year-old North Rupununi man was found dead yesterday morning on the Tabatinga Public Road in Lethem and the police say he was stabbed.

“At about 0540hrs today Sunday April 20, 2014, the body of Terrence Robin James, 23 years, of Kwatamang Village, North Rupununi, was found on the Tabatinga Public Road, Lethem, with suspected stab wounds to the chest,” Police said in a press release.

A resident of Tabatinga told Stabroek News yesterday that while the man left his village to attend the Lethem Rodeo on Saturday, he was last seen during the wee hours of Saturday morning imbibing alcohol at a community rum shop.

The resident opined that James was probably followed after he left the shop and was stabbed on the desolate road as no one at the shop remembers him being in an argument with anyone or any strange sounds after he would have left.

Police said that the body is at the Lethem Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are in progress.
