Helper cleaned up $1M in jewellery after Delph St fire

Ronald Sookraj, who was asked by one of the victims of a house fire at Delph Street, Campbellville, to help clean in its aftermath, is being accused of stealing $1M in gold and silver jewellery during the exercise.

A 47-year-old weed cutter, Sookraj was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum $100,000 after denying the charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in a city court.

The charge against Sookraj stated that on June 16, at Georgetown, he stole a quantity of gold
