Injured newspaper vendor’s condition improves

Approximately three weeks after being injured in an accident and then robbed by passers-by pretending to help, hospitalised newspaper vendor Lorna Johnson is finally starting to show signs of improvement.

Johnson, 55, who is an admitted patient at in the Georgetown Public Hospital, told Stabroek News that she is now able to breathe on her own—something that was not possible before because her ribs, which were broken during the accident, had punctured her lungs.

Even though the person responsible for the accident has been charged with drunk driving, Johnson said that she was informed by police ranks who visited her that she must report to the investigating station to file a statement against the individual so that charges in relation to her accident may commence.

Still confined to bed rest, Johnson said that she is anxiously waiting for her doctor’s verdict about when she will be allowed to move around again.

Johnson was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital on June 22nd with four broken ribs, a broken hip and head injuries after a car collided with hers. She was knocked unconscious during the collision and was then robbed by citizens pretending to render assistance
