Man remains in custody over murder of hairdresser

An East Coast of Demerara man remains in police custody for questioning into the murder of Lusignan hairdresser Ashmini Harryram.

Harryram, 19 years old and a cosmetologist of Lusignan, was hurrying home to tend to a client’s hair when a man grabbed her $15,000 cellphone and shot her in her head. The shooting occurred around 11:15 am last Thursday, a short distance from her home.

A police source told Stabroek News that the man who was picked up at his home on Tuesday remains in custody and was being questioned. The police said that they are looking at several theories as to why the young woman was killed and have not ruled out that it could have been a premeditated killing.

Investigations are continuing.
