New Market, Camp Sts junction to remain closed for 14 days

The Guyana Water Inc (GWI) yesterday said that the New Market and Camp Sts junction will remain closed to traffic for the next 14 days for ongoing sewerage works.

GWI said this is to facilitate the completion of the ‘main gate valve chambers’ which form a key component of the rehabilitated sewerage system.  The work is being done under the Government of Guyana and Inter-American Development Bank US$ 10 Million Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP). Programme Manager, GSIP, Orin Browne stated “these chambers were constructed utilizing concrete and as such we must allow the concrete to harden or cure before placing any weight on the chambers”.
