Arrested man claims police assault

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into the alleged assault by ranks of an arrested man following the prisoner’s admission to the Suddie Hospital.

Deon Gherow, 47, of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast is claiming that he was assaulted by police ranks on Friday following his arrest for a reported break and enter and larceny, a release from the police said. The investigation is being carried out by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility.

“Deon Gherow has alleged that he was assaulted by police ranks while on his way to the Anna Regina Police Station and also while at the police station,” the police said.

He was taken to the Suddie Hospital where he has been admitted for medical treatment, the release further stated.
