PPP/C prepared for general elections – Luncheon restates

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon today stated that should general elections be called at this time his government was ready, confident and prepared.

“I am echoing what the General Secretary (of the PPP/C Clement Rohee) and the President said we are ready,” Luncheon said.

He was today responding to the question asked by this newspaper as to his party’s response to the planned no-confidence motion against government, likely clearing the way for early general elections.

Last evening, APNU Leader David Granger said that the main opposition coalition would give support to the AFC’s planned no-confidence motion against government, setting the stage for new general elections.

Luncheon said that at yesterday’s sitting of Cabinet the possibility of A Partnership for National Unity’s support for the motion was noted but not discussed in depth. He said that this issue will be discussed and analyzed at next Tuesday’s Cabinet sitting.

Luncheon pointed out that since Parliament will be in recess from August 10th, he was doubtful that any party will seek to have a sitting before that date and while the possibility existed his government had not yet explored options should this be done.
