Bail for Essequibo mason charged with smoking coke

Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Monday granted $100,000 bail to a 25-year-old Essequibo Coast man charged with smoking cocaine.

Taleshwar Singh, a mason of Lot 66 Walton Hall, pleaded not guilty to the charge that on August 15, at Paradise, Essequibo Coast he smoked cocaine.

According to the facts of the case heard at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, on the said day around 11pm, police on patrol duty at Paradise saw someone smoking at the bus shed. They stopped, conducted a search on Singh but found nothing; however, when they inspected the item that he was smoking they allegedly discovered tobacco leaves mixed with cocaine wrapped in white paper.

The man was told of the offence and arrested.

The accused’s attorney, Latchmie Dindyal, asked for reasonable bail to be granted and Police Prosecutor Haimwant Ramsewak had no objections.

Singh was ordered to return to court on September 23.
