Rohan of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was arraigned on April 25 for the murder of his brother, whom he is accused of fatally chopping.

He was not required to plead to the charge, which stated that sometime between April 20 and April 22, he murdered Jairam, at Kaneville.

A post-mortem examination determined that Jairam, 40, called ‘Nasho’, died as a result of internal bleeding caused by severe lacerations about his body.

A neighbour had told Stabroek News that she was awakened around 1 am on April 21 by the sound of Jairam’s voice and she heard his brother shouting at him to get out of the house if he did not have any money. She said she heard Rohan beating Jairam but did not do anything because it was a norm for the two men to fight.

The following day, her husband saw a foot and he got worried and started ask if anyone had seen Jairam. He then contacted the man’s son and they later went to the Kaneville property and discovered Jairam’s body.
