Rosignol miner dies in pit collapse

At about 1030h. today, police say that miner Nolan Lindie, 42 years, of Rosignol, WBB, was working in a mining pit at Mahdia, Potaro, when the wall of the pit caved in on him. He was later taken out and taken to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are in progress.

On Thursday, police said they were investigating the death of Rocklyn Solomon, 32 years, a miner, of Paradise Village, WCB, which occurred at at Princeville, Potaro River.

Investigations revealed, police say, that Solomon and other workers were in a pit working, when the wall caved in and trapped him beneath the soil. His body was later retrieved and taken to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In recent years, many miners have died in pit accidents. Little has followed on these cases from the Ministry of Labour and the miners association.
