Man shot by police at Friendship still in hospital

Steve Mohamed, who was shot by police on Monday at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, remained hospitalised yesterday.

Yesterday, the police said that at about 1930h on Monday, Mohamed, 26 years, of Kaneville, EBD, was shot and injured by the police during an armed confrontation.

“Investigations have revealed that acting on information received the police went to Friendship, EBD, where they saw Steve Mohamed who was wanted for questioning in relation to investigations being conducted into reports of murder and robbery under arms. On seeing the police, Steve Mohamed opened fire on the ranks who returned fire hitting him to his left upper leg”, police said.

Mohamed was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and was later transferred to the GPHC where he remains under guard.

Police said that a .38 special revolver with two spent shells and three live rounds was recovered by them.
