Assistant Superintendent of Police shot in foot at Lethem

The police say that investigations are being conducted into an incident that occurred at a night spot at Tabatinga, Lethem, at about 0315h. today and which resulted in Assistant Superintendent of Police Deolall Rooplall being shot and injured to one of the toes of his left foot.

Investigations so far, police say, have revealed that the Police Officer intervened in an altercation among a group of men when shots were discharged and he was struck to his foot. He was treated at the Lethem Hospital and sent away.

A man attached to a private security service has been arrested and a .32 pistol seized as the investigations continue, police say.
