Police officer shot in foot at Lethem

A policeman was early morning shot and wounded shortly after he intervened in a dispute involving a group of men at a nightclub in Lethem.

The injured rank who was treated for a wound to his toe has been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police Deolall Rooplall.

Police said in a press release yesterday that investigations are being conducted into an incident that occurred at a night spot at Tabatinga, Lethem, at about 03:15 hrs and which resulted in Rooplall being shot and injured to one of the toes of his left foot.

Investigations so far have revealed that the police officer intervened in an altercation among a group of men when shots were discharged and he was struck to his foot. He was treated at the Lethem Hospital and sent away.

A man attached to a private security service has been arrested and a .32 pistol seized as the investigations continue, the release said.
