Man fined for abusing sister

A Linden man was yesterday fined $5,000 for verbally abusing his sister, after telling a city court that he still loved her.

Ronald Reid, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge that he used abusive language towards Lashona Reid on November 13, at Constabulary Compound, in Mackenzie, Linden.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones told Magistrate Ann McLennan that the two are siblings and Ronald is always in the habit of using abusive language to Lashona whenever he can’t find his personal belongings in the house they share.

Jones said that on November 13, Ronald was unable to find a charger and jacket belonging to him. He subsequently confronted Lashona and told her he did not mind going back to prison if he did not get his things.

The prosecutor said the woman got scared and made a report to the Mackenzie Police Station.

Ronald explained to the court that he and his sister had an argument and she used abusive language towards him and he did the same. He said he didn’t even know his sister went to the police station to make a report until the next day, when police came to his home and told him of the information they received and arrested him. “I curse her. Mommy was right there too,” he added.

He also said Lashona was his sister after all and he still loved her no matter what. After explaining the entire ordeal, he asked the court to have mercy on him and be lenient since he still loved his sister.

He was later fined $5,000 and will have to serve seven days in jail if he fails to pay the fine. He was also placed on a bond to keep the peace. If he fails to keep the peace, he will be jailed for six months.
