Guyana Goldfields donates to various organisations

Guyana Goldfields Inc made donations to several social and community organisations for their many development programmes, at its gathering held on Monday for its 2014 Children’s Needs Develop-ment Initiative and Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

At the event held at Cara Lodge, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibil-ity Manager Ayaana Jean-Baptiste told the gathering that it had focused on developing support relationships with schools and technical training institutions to promote vocational training and to foster the involvement of women in technical fields. Senior Vice President Violet Smith echoed these views, adding that Guyana Goldfields is committed to training and technology transfer for its employees and the wider population, a press release from the company said.

A diverse number of groups were represented at the meeting including the Guyana Society for the Blind, the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, the Saraswati Vidya Niketan Hindu School, Colacco Education Management Committee, Joshua House, Help and Shelter, Step by Step which works with autistic children, Artistes in Direct Support and the Santa Rosa PTA from Region One.

The company has also continued to build on its established relationships with vocational and technical institutions such as the Guyana Industrial Training Centre and the Linden Technical Institute; providing teaching equipment and tools to the former institution.

Swami Aksharananda, Principal of the Saraswati Vidya Niketan; Nazim Hussein, Chairman of the Board of Artistes in Direct Support and Hyacinth G Massay, Rehabilitation Officer at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre were among those who expressed their appreciation. Swami Aksharananda told the gathering that the support will assist in establishing what he hopes will be Guyana’s first STEM centre in a secondary school focused on honing children’s abilities in Science, Techno-logy, Engineering and Mathematics.

Guyana Goldfields Human Resources Manager Peter Benny closed the programme by extending best wishes to the organisations and support for their continued efforts aimed at enhancing the lives of the intended beneficiaries.
