It is time those in authority prove they are capable of eradicating this curse of noise nuisance

Dear Editor,

It is time a more serious approach to this horrible noise abuse and continuous attack on people’s health, peace and comfort be taken more seriously by the authorities, especially on Sheriff and Seaforth Streets, Campbellville, respectively. There are also the private vehicle owners who continue to harass citizens at any hour of the night on Sheriff Street when there are dance promotions by the nightclub owners who operate there.

These heartless, cruel, insensitive individuals, especially the nightclub owners and those who come out to lime continue to brutalize us and our very young children, and they do whatever they want for as long they want and no one is doing anything to stop them, except when the now deceased Mr Derrick Josiah proved different in his brief role as ‘A’ Division Commander and the noise stopped completely from one particular entity. When he served justice was served, but now everything is right back to how it was ‒ noise, noise and more noise.

Christmas is supposed to be a time for peace, love, caring and sharing, and not being exposed for hours and having your brain savagely beaten by a heavy bass and loud music night after night until the wee hours of the morning leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve the parties never stopped until 5 am from one entity and 6.15 on Christmas morning from another, despite calls being made on more than one occasion from 4 am to get some kind of relief, until a patrol that was being summoned over and over again finally responded. I wish to thank the female rank who did her duty promptly and also a male rank from Impact base who also responded to stop the noise from a vehicle parked nearby when I had called in tears earlier that day; I was not feeling well.

By 7.15 on Christmas morning the noise nuisances from Seaforth Street started, and a patrol was summoned by me. The music stopped for about 20 minutes and started again; eventually it stopped and I was able to get some sleep after being exposed to over 11 hours of loud savage bass in the form of music, and I was sick. I was forced to visit the hospital on Boxing Day to check my pressure, because of terrible pain around my neck and head, and by the time I returned home at 16:45 noise was already invading my residence from the entity opposite. It was a horrible nightmare as the noise continued from the two entities located there, the music never stopping until 3.15 on Friday morning, I am now more sick from lack of sleep and from being forced to endure a set of filth with heavy bass, from which there was no escape.

No one cares about the citizens of this country. Why are these heartless monsters being allowed to take away people’s health like this. There was another session Saturday and Sunday and every night these people are allowed to harass and torment others while they and their families are in their homes safe from this torment. Will someone in authority, someone with feelings, I mean, someone who has people’s welfare at heart do something about this brutal continuous attack of noise abuse.

It is time these nightclub owners be instructed to soundproof their businesses using the correct procedure.

Expensive though it may be, it isn’t a tall order for some of them. It is time all these oversized boom boxes be removed from all vehicles; it is time some citizens who continue to harass their neighbours completely ignoring that there is a noise nuisance law be prosecuted and brought before the courts and jailed for at least one day by the police. It is time those in authority prove that they are capable of eradicating this horrible curse and crime.

 Yours faithfully,
