Dear Editor,
A gathering of nearly 1000 persons of all ages and religions witnessed an alcohol-free Phagwah Mela at the Enmore Blossom Scheme playfield, carefully organized and wonderfully executed by hard-working and disciplined members of the Enmore Youth Development Group.
The packed playfield was testimony to the planning, marketing and coordinating of the event and the group must be heartened and encouraged by the large turn-out. The many businesses and individuals who contributed in various ways to making the event a success must also feel proud that this bunch of young people did not disappoint.
The example set by Romel Putulall and his members is worthy of emulation by other villages, since it is our youths who will be the leaders and decision-makers of our tomorrow.
Our youths need to seek their rightful place in society.
This group started with less than 12 persons. What I saw yesterday as the very active membership ran into 50 – smiling, connecting with the residents, serving sweet-meats and fetching benches to make people comfortable.
And I saw delegation in motion: the MCing of the programme was rotated so that quite a few members of the group were exposed to addressing the crowd.
I echo hereby the positive sentiments of the Enmore Community and I invite our youths, and parents as a whole, to come on board so that Enmore specifically can fertilize a youth movement which straddles all cultures and religions.
To the group members: Keep marching forward. The residents of Enmore are behind you. Be our sensible leaders of tomorrow.
