Passing in pairs

Dear Editor,

The death of Professor Girvan and former President ANR Robinson simultaneously continues a trend for some notable Caribbean politicians to go in pairs.

Sir Lionel Luckhoo and Martin Carter went out together. So did Dr Jagan and Michael Manley. In the case of Prime Minister Tom Adams he chose someone far away – Russian General Secretary Chernenko. Given his antipathy to socialists as manifested in the war of words between himself and Maurice Bishop, it was somewhat ironic that he would pick such a companion to travel to the pearly gates.

Wonder if they parted company at that point.

Yours faithfully,

Frederick W A Collins
