Beaten at police station

Dear Editor,

A recent visit to the Aurora Police Station to make a report turned out to be very bad for me when instead of this being done, I was severely beaten by a rank (name given) to the extent of suffering a fractured rib.

At the time of the battering which occurred around 9.30 pm on Sunday, April 20, 2014, the rank appeared to be inebriated judging from his demeanor and the odour of alcohol when he was speaking to me.

A domestic wrangle was responsible for me going to the station and as I was about to relate the nature of my report to another rank, my assailant suddenly appeared and using expletives chucked me to sit on a bench where he started to cuff me on my head, face and other parts of my body.

The officer then handcuffed me and continued beating me until I fell down, only to get some kicks about my body before placing me in the lock-ups where I was incarcerated for the entire night before being released on self-bail the next day. The pain about my body had become unbearable, and I went to the Suddie hospital where an X-ray revealed that one of my ribs had been fractured.

A detailed statement of all that transpired was taken from me at the divisional headquarters in Anna Regina; this was done in a commendable manner.

Yours faithfully,
Latchman Narine Bhodnarine
