The malady continues at City Hall

Dear Editor,

The malady continues at City Hall with the recent forgery charge against Mr Royston King and the decision of the city council to move a motion sending the acting Town Clerk, Ms Carol Sooba, on administrative leave. These developments, similar to what have gotten us here, represent a failure of governance. We are here because of the 20 years failure of our parliamentary policy-makers to ensure local government elections (LGE) are held. We are here because the Minister of Local Government refuses to set a date for LGE. We are here because the acting Town Clerk refuses to respect the democratic process that governs the administration of municipalities in Guyana.

And we will continue to be here once our policy-makers continue to disregard the basic tenets of good governance. Call local government elections now.

Yours faithfully,
Clinton Urling
