50-overs competition on the East Coast should be supported

Dear Editor,

I read with interest a letter by Mr Anil Persaud relating to cricket on the East Coast of Demerara. In supporting the posture of Mr Persaud as it relates to cricket on the East Coast, I wish to reiterate my view that the current leadership of the East Coast Cricket Board of Control is most ineffective. It took them four years to complete a competition. The thrust of every cricket board should be, as far as possible, to develop cricket, particularly among youths. The East Coast Board should earn an F in this regard. Cricket has been subservient to battles between the administration of the East Coast Board and the Guyana Board.

The current 50-overs competition organized by a committee headed by Anil Persaud, whose agenda is to have cricket played on the East Coast, is most welcome and should be supported. I am aware that Mr Bissoondyal Singh attempted to derail this competition. He will not succeed. I ask cricket clubs on the East Coast who genuinely wish to see cricket brought to the fore to tell the administration of the East Coast Board that personal ambition has no place in the development and promotion of young talent. The current administration has failed cricket on the East Coast and must exit the scene.

They should stop embarrassing themselves. They have failed!

 Yours faithfully,

T Jadunauth
