Students should study religious education

Dear Editor,

I wish to congratulate the Government of Guyana, the Minister of Education and the Ministry of Education, all teachers and the shining stars (students) for their exemplary performances at the 2014 CSEC and CAPE examinations. Their excellent results have made us (Guyana) so proud of them. They are the future of our beautiful nation, and they should please continue to strive for excellence in their future endeavours.

I further wish to encourage all students to study religious education for I am sure that this knowledge will cause them to be better human beings in our diverse and multicultural society. It will certainly assist them to be more tolerant and understanding of the other faiths.

In concluding, I applaud the Board of Directors of the ISA Islamic School Inc, the administration and teachers for making it mandatory for each of their students who are preparing for the CSEC to sit the religious Education (RE) examination in grade 11. Finally, I extend congratulations to the three students (Br Ibrahim Khan, Sr Sakeena Khan and Sr Saahirah Khan) for their excellent performance and great accomplishment in securing placement within the top 10 students from the Caribbean who wrote the RE exams.

Yours faithfully,

Nazar Mohamed
