The Ministry of Education is currently engaging parents and guardians of school age children on the most suitable manner in which the Ministry can issue the $10,000 per child grant that was announced by the government in the 2014 budget.

A release from the Ministry of Education today said that during a visit to the Essequibo Coast, Region Two, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand engaged parents of 45 schools in nine separate meetings on how the Ministry can best provide the grant to them.   Manickchand explained that the grant will be awarded to every child attending public school in a household even if there are 10 children in that household.

The release said that the Minister sought to consult the gatherings on whether they would prefer to be able to encash a voucher of if they would prefer to be able to purchase goods from accredited stores with the vouchers. The release said that the parents almost unanimously chose to be able to encash their voucher.
