Johnson celebrates birthday by winning three TT titles

National junior player Elishaba Johnson gave himself the perfect birthday gift by capturing three titles as the National Sports Commission sponsored Mashramani table tennis competition continued yesterday at the National Gymnasium.

Also winning three titles yesterday was Chelsea Edghill who won the girls U18 singles and the mixed doubles and girls doubles titles.

Johnson, who celebrated his birthday yesterday won the boys U18 and U15 titles defeating Kyle Edghill and Stephan Corlette respectively before teaming up with Corlette to capture the boys’ doubles title.

In an entertaining boys U18 final Johnson raced to a two sets to love lead only for Corlette to level the match

at three sets all setting the stage for the decider.

Johnson eventually prevailed 11-9, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5, 10-12, 8-11 and 11-6.

In the semi-finals Johnson defeated Scott Garraway 3-0 while Corlette edged Shemar Britton 3-2.

Johnson won his second title when he defeated Edghill 11-8, 17-15, 11-5, 11-9.

He had earlier defeated Khalil Ninvalle 3-0 in the semi-finals while Edghill made light work of Miguel Wong with a 3-0 whipping.

In the boys U18 doubles, the pair of Johnson/Corlette defeated the pair of Britton/Kevon Corbin 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.

In the semi-finals Britton/Corbin defeated Alex Hopkinson/Miguel Wong 3-1 while Johnson/Corlette defeated Jeremy Singh/Kyle Edghill.

Khalil NInvalle defeated Terrence Rausch 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-3 to win the boysU13 singles title. Ninvalle had beaten Tyriq Saunders 3-1 in the semi-finals while Rausch upset Jeremy Singh 3-2.

Chelsea Edghill defeated Neveah Clarkston to win the girls U18 singles while Clarkson defeated Abigail Martin to win the girls U11 singles title.

In the girls doubles final Edghill and Kristie Lopes defeated Priscilla Greaves and Jewell Todd 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 while in the junior mixed doubles

Final the brother and sister combination of Kyle and Chelsea Edghii defeated Britton and Clarkston 11-3, 11-1, 11-3.
