PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Former skipper Denesh Ramdin says poor shot selection and a dropped catch are the main reasons Trinidad and Tobago lost to Barbados in the NAGICO Super50 final on Saturday night
The host slumped to 94 for five early in the chase after dismissing Barbados for 252 at the Queen’s Park oval.
Ramdin, who was replaced as captain by Dwayne Bravo for the series, slammed two sixes and six fours in a top score of 68 to keep the contest alive although they were eventually bowled out for 235.
“There were some bad shot selections. We needed just about five runs per over and we played some bad shots in the middle and it really cost us,” said Ramdin.
“We all say catches win matches and that catch with Dwayne Smith was a crucial point in the match and we did not take it so we paid the price for it”.
Smith, who was put down on 22, went on to equal his highest score in the tournament, hitting 83 off 77 balls to give Barbados a good start after their skipper won the toss and elected to bat first.
Smith also scored 83 in his first game in the tournament against T&T in the Group stage which Barbados also won.
“We did not have anyone to bat through those overs,” said Ramdin.
“We had one partnership and then nothing really coming down until the end”.
Jason Mohammed (26) and Ramdin put on 48 runs in 13 overs taking the score to 142 in the 33rd over before Mohammed tried to cut Sulieman Benn and got an edge to wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich.
Ramdin also put on 44 with Rayad Emrit before he departed, lbw to Smith, silencing the crowd.
“The Bajans outplayed us and we had to pay the price for it. Just to get a start and one guy to bat through the middle overs. We did not get that,” said Ramdin, referring to his team’s strategy.
“We lost the top four guys there and batting with the lower order, I tried my best to finish it off and I was not able to do that for the team.”
