Braithwaite wins X Class Record Shoot

Lennox Braithwaite warmed up for the upcoming West Indies full-bore championships by winning the X Class Record Shoot over the weekend as the

Guyana NRA National Rifle Team continued its preparation for the upcoming championships.

According to a press release, Braithwaite won the closely contested shoot with a score of 119.9V.

The shoot was held over the 300, 600 and 900 ranges under initial overcast conditions but developed into a bright day with deceitful winds at the 600 range, stated the release.

Braithwaite and national captain Mahendra Persaud scored possibles at the 300 range shot where Braithwaite shot 50.3 and Persaud 50.5.

They were followed by Ransford Goodluck (49.3) and Dylan Fields (49.1).

At 600 yards Braithwaite, Goodluck and Fields shot 34 out of a possible 35.

The intensity among the X-Class shooters continued at the 900 yards range with Braithwaite and Goodluck shooting possibles of 35.3 and 35.4 respectively, followed by Persaud (33.2) and Fields (33.1).

The O-Class shooters had a keenly contested shoot also with the returning Leo Ramalho leading after the first two ranges with scores of 48.4 and 32.1 at the 300 and 600 ranges.

Close behind was Ryan Sampson who shot 47.3 and 30.0 at the 300 and 600 yards respectively.  Sampson closed the gap after shooting 33. 1 at 900 years compared to Ramalho’s 30. 0.

Both shooters ended with similar aggregate scores but Ramalho (110.5) pipped Sampson (110.4) by one V-Bull to win the O’ Class.

The National team continues its intense preparations next weekend at the Timehri Rifle Ranges.  This weekend the association will be having its annual fund raising bar on Vlissengen and Crown Streets as they attempt to raise funds for competitions.

Meanwhile, newly elected president of the Guyana NRA, Brig. General Mark Phillips, visited the ranges where he observed the shooters in training and took some time to fire a few rifle shots to demonstrate to the rifle team his accuracy, who warmly applauded.
