National, Rest teams play to tame draw

The Guyana national cricket team’s warm up match against the Rest XI yesterday ended in a draw.

The national side, resuming their second innings on yesterday’s final day with the score 257 for 4, went on to score 294 for 9 setting a target of 297 for the Rest XI.

Assad Fudadin scored an unbeaten 117 while Christopher Barnwell and skipper Leon Johnson each scored 59 runs.

Narsingh Deonarine who played for both teams grabbed 2 for 13 while Jonathan Foo supported with a wicket.

Chasing 298 for a victory the Rest XI reached 160 for 8 before the match was called off at 15:40hrs by the officials. Foo returned with the bat to slam a top score of 61 while Royan Fredericks made

24 and Deonarine 20.

Robin Bacchus (12), Rajendra Chandrika (6), Rajiv Ivan (7), Crandon (7), Adams (5) and Jason Sinclair (8*) never got out of the blocks as Keon Joseph bagged 3-73, leg spinner Devendra Bishoo picked up 2-16 and Barnwell chipped in with 2-26.

The practice game which commenced on Wednesday saw four days of competitive Test cricket and good performances from some of the team’s star players.

The National team scored 203 in their first innings with Fudadin the top scorer with 41. Foo, Rajiv Ivan and Randy Knights were the chief wicket-takers for the Rest XI. In reply the Rest side were bowled out for 200 runs in 59.1 overs to trail by three runs. Ricardo Adams (46), Royston Crandon (34) and Ivan (31) were the top scorers, while Bishoo 4-38, and was the principal wicket taker.

The team will wing out for Jamaica very soon and will take on the home team in the first match of the tournament.
