Persaud going all out to defend Cheddi Jagan Memorial race title

Top cyclist Robin Persaud will be going all out to defend his title today when the first stage of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle road race takes place in West Demerara.

Persaud won last year’s event in one hour, 56 seconds but will face a strong test from Raynauth Jeffrey winner of last week’s Forbes Burnham memorial cycle race.

In addition to Jeffrey, cyclists such as Alanzo Greaves, Geron Williams, Orville Hinds, Warren Mc Kay and Orville Hinds are all capable of winning the event.

The other defending champions are Michael Anthony, who won the junior event, veteran winner Kennard Lovell and Ozia McAully and Hazima Bharrat, winners of the mountain bikes and female categories.

Jiffy Lubes Auto Sales and Spares is the sponsor of today’s event along with BK International.

The two remaining stages of the race will be held later this month.
