Mayor’s All Star youth team to tour Suriname

The Mayor’s All-Star Youth team will depart local shores Monday for their Suriname football tour.

The team, which was selected from various clubs across the nation and will be coached by Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson, will be involved in two friendly matches on March 18 and 20.

Captained by Pele FC utility man Joshua Kamal, the 21-man roster will feature the likes of Joshua Brown, Les Charles Critchlow, Delon Lanferman, Kimba Brathwaite, Domini Garnett, Trevor Jones, Clive Matthews, Jeffrey Perreira, Andre Hector, Dwayne Wilson, Jamal Petty,

Randolph Wagner, Rashawn Hicks, Devon Charles, Malcolm Wilson, Orville Stewart, Nickel Fraser, Kevin Layne Jr., Keron Solomon and Rondell Arthur.

Den Amstel leads the contingent of clubs with five representatives followed by Grove Hi-Tech and Slingerz FC with three representatives apiece.

The Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Pele FC and Santos FC each have two representatives whilst BK Western Tigers, Police FC, Monedderlust FC and Beterverwag-ting/Triumph United complete the roster with one representative each.

Members of the travelling coaching staff includes Marlon Washington (assistant coach), Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Brathwaite (assistant coordinator), Christine Smith (manager) and Mark Bradford (assistant manager).

Team Manager Smith during an invited comment said:“I expect the best from them, winning is not an option, it is a must. Once they leave the shores, they are representing Guyana and not just themselves.

“Whether it’s a trial or not, they could do it. I am expecting the best, we have a lot of talented and skillful players and we are going to showcase our talents,” said Smith.

In preparation for their international assignment, the youthful brigade will faceoff with Caribbean Football Union (CFU) club championship bounded Alpha United today at the GFC ground, Bourda from 19:00hrs.

Accommodation for the travelling contingent will be provided by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond while the Thrill Beverage Company will supply internal transportation to and from matches along with rations for meals. Other relevant travelling necessities will be provided by the Mayor’s Organizing Committee.
